Since King Mongkut University of Technology, Thonburi’s new building near Wong Wien Yai has a setback of 16 metres, the architects involved thought of having containers converted and installed on the setback area for functional purposes.

Before doing so, however, the architects requested that the famous British AA architectural institute send Japanese guest lecturer and architect Onishi Takuya, designer of the institute’s new building, over to join M-150 and the Bangkok Design Fair 2009 in trying out a new conversion and functional installation strategy. Five containers are to be placed as installations in the middle of Parc Paragon and named ‘Play Cloud.’ These cargo containers will be set down amid a cloud of balloons, thus counterbalancing the hardness of the containers with a milieu of fun and fancy. One container replicates the new building’s construction process, while the other four connect to the exhibit by serving as the venue for displaying national degree entries, making it the ‘M-150 Degree Shows.’ Of particular interest are the activities going on between exhibit locations within the ‘M-150 Degree Shows,’ which offer mental challenges to the visitors and provoke their creative responses. It was originally thought that the ‘M-150 Degree Shows’ and ‘Playcloud’ would be complete with prizes; for what this is all about, however, go see for yourself during October 14 – 21, 2009 at Parc Paragon.
